60 Years. One Family. One Mission.
Hi Fashion Sewing Machines & Quilt Shop has been Western Colorado's most trusted sewing destination since the day we opened in 1965. We're still here. Same values, second generation.
Hi Fashion Began as a Promise to the Grand Valley. We've Never Broken It.
Hi Fashion Sewing Machines & Quilt Shop opened its doors in 1965 with a single belief: the people of Western Colorado deserved a real sewing shop — a place with expertise, community, and a commitment to being there long after the sale.
For 60 years, Hi Fashion has been that place. We've sold machines to grandmothers and their granddaughters. We've repaired Singers that came in older than most of our customers. We've taught generations of Grand Junction crafters to quilt, sew, and create. The same commitment that built this shop is still here today — just with a second generation running it.
When Jeff Vogel took over, he didn't just inherit a business. He inherited a relationship with an entire region of crafters who'd trusted his family for decades. He intends to honor that.

Owner, Hi Fashion Sewing Machines & Quilt Shop
"Our vision is to provide a comfortable retail and classroom atmosphere — and promote real social interaction."
I grew up in this shop. Before I could see over the counter, I was here. Watching my family build something from nothing — a business that this community chose to trust, year after year. I understand what that means.
When you walk through our door, you're not a transaction. You're continuing a relationship that may have started before you were born. We've had customers whose mothers shopped here first. We've repaired machines that older generations left behind. We've watched beginners become expert quilters over years of classes.
What makes Hi Fashion different isn't just our services — it's the fact that we genuinely care whether you succeed. Whether you're learning to thread a needle for the first time, or bringing in a beloved machine that needs saving, we want to be the shop that feels like home.
We repair all brands — not just what we sell. We welcome all skill levels — not just the advanced. We'll never tell you to buy something you don't need or ship your machine off to a factory you've never heard of. You get real people, real expertise, and a shop that will still be here 60 years from now.
60 Years of Grand Junction Sewing History
From a small local shop to the region's most trusted full-service sewing destination — here's how we got here.
Hi Fashion Opens Its Doors
Hi Fashion Sewing Machines & Quilt Shop opens in Grand Junction, Colorado — built on the belief that Western Colorado deserved a real local sewing shop with lasting expertise and genuine community.
Repair for All Brands — A Founding Commitment
From the beginning, Hi Fashion established a policy that would define it: we service and repair all brands of sewing machines, not just the ones we sell. It's a policy we've never wavered from.
The Classroom Becomes the Community
Hi Fashion expands beyond sales and repair, launching a full classroom program of sewing and quilting classes. The goal: give every crafter in the Grand Valley a place to learn, connect, and belong.
Jeff Vogel Takes the Helm
Jeff Vogel, who grew up in the store, takes over as second-generation owner. Same values, deepened commitment. The relationship with Western Colorado's sewing community continues unbroken.
Quilting Fabric Ships Nationwide
Hi Fashion launches its national Shopify store at hifashiongj.com — making premium quilting fabric and supplies available to crafters across the country, while the Grand Junction store remains the heart of it all.
60 Years Strong — And Going
Hi Fashion enters its seventh decade as Grand Junction's only full-service sewing shop: machines, repair, classes, and fabric all under one roof. The mission is unchanged. The commitment is stronger than ever.
The Values Behind 60 Years
These aren't posted on a wall — they show up in every repair, every class, and every customer interaction.
Community First
Hi Fashion exists to serve the crafters of Western Colorado — not to maximize transactions. We measure success by the relationships we build, not just the machines we sell.
Fix What Others Won't
We repair all brands. Always have. A machine you love deserves to be fixed by someone who knows what they're doing — not shipped off, not refused, not replaced prematurely.
Learning Should Be Social
Our classroom isn't just about technique. It's about the friendships formed over fabric, the projects finished together, and the confidence built when someone who was scared picks up a machine and makes something beautiful.
Real People Answer
Call us and someone picks up. Visit and someone greets you. No chatbots. No voicemail maze. Just the people who know this business and genuinely want to help.
Right Fit Over Easy Sale
We'd rather spend an hour finding you the right machine than sell you the wrong one in five minutes. The right machine gets used. The wrong one sits in the closet — and that's a failure we take personally.
Here for the Long Haul
We've been open 60 years. We plan on another 60. When you buy a machine from us, or take your first class here, you're not starting a transaction — you're starting a relationship with a shop that intends to still be here.
Things We Refuse to Do — And Why
The sewing machine industry has its share of shortcuts. Here's what you'll never get from us.
Refuse a Repair Because It's Not Our Brand
We fix all brands. Singer, Pfaff, Viking, Brother, Bernina — whatever you have. Telling someone we won't touch their machine because we didn't sell it isn't service. It's gatekeeping. We don't do it.
Sell You the Most Expensive Machine
We'll recommend the machine that fits your skill level, budget, and projects — even if it's the least expensive one on the floor. A machine you'll actually use is the right machine.
Make You Feel Judged for Being a Beginner
Everyone starts somewhere. Our classroom is built on that principle. Whether you've never touched a sewing machine or you've been quilting for 40 years, you're equally welcome here.
Send You Somewhere Else When Things Get Hard
Complex repair? Unusual machine? Confusing project? We stay with it. We've been doing this 60 years — we've seen complicated before, and we don't pass it off.
60 Years of Relationships
The proof of what Hi Fashion is — in the words of the people who've been coming here for years.
My experience with buying my Janome M7 was outstanding!! Lorraine is very professional and gave me a great lesson on using the new beast!! I ended up buying a very cute chair and some other accessories!! I’m throughly impressed with this shop and plan to visit again soon!! Road trip!!
The staff helped me select a new machine that has all the features I really want and not too many bells and whistles that I'll never use. They have all the useful accessories and gorgeous fabrics for quilters and crafters. The owner expertly repaired an older machine that I keep for use when I'm the family's traveling mending-and-alterations person. Grand Junction is lucky to have such a quality place for serious sewing.
